Kolkata Race Course

The Kolkata Race Course occupies the south-western corner of the Maidan. Its presence adds to the magnificence of the city by virtue of its orderliness and lush greenery. Large multitudes of enthusiasts throng the course during the period between November and February and again during early March, when most of the meets are held. During other parts of the year when the thoroughbreds are not in action, polo matches are held. Polo still enjoys a large loyal following in the city.

The racecourse's flower gardens are kept in impeccable order round the year. Here one can find red and yellow canna lillies which blossom in plenty in the tropical climate of the city.
