The
National Library, formerly known as Belvedere, was once the home of the
Lieutenant-Governors of Bengal. At a later period, it has also been the
winter residence of the British Viceroys. An architectural hotchpotch
as far as style and proportion are concerned, it one the well-maintained
palaces that still lends the city its quaint charm. Today, it houses a
library, a treasure house for book-lovers and research students.
