La Martiniere Boys' School

Claude Martin's School better known as the La Martiniere Boys' School is one of the most elegant of the classical buildings of the nineteenth century. Completed in 1835, it was designed by J.P. Parker and Captain Hutchinson. It also housed a chapel, which was consecrated in 1836. Previously there was a dome like structure atop the building, which was rendered unsafe by the earthquake of 1898 and had to be removed.

Recently a modern building has been built on the south-eastern corner of the premises, which has occupied a major part of the garden in front of the original building.
