He
was enlightened with knowledge by Paramanha Dev. After the
death of Paramahansa Dev, Swamiji went round the country on
foot to know the world and learn the culture of people whom
he had never met before. Often he was on meditation right
from the Himalayan range of mountains to the sea bed at the
extreme southern flank of India. The rock in Kanyakumari where
he mediated is known as Vivekananda rock located at the southern
tip of main land in India. This is a place of historical importance
and tourists pay visit there where the confluence of three
seas - Indian Ocean in the front, Bay of Bengal at the left
and Arabian Sea at the right is seen.
Swamiji
was the first person to preach Hindu religion abroad. He made
extensive tour to Europe and America. His most memorable speech
in preach about Hinduism was made at Chicago in the year 1983
where he made the audience spell bound as he addressed them
"Brothers and Sisters". He was the first to preach
Hinduism and enlighten the world of the great value of Hindu
religion with logic and evidence.
After
he came back to India in 1896, he concentrated to form a metaphysical
organization and named it as Rama Krishna Mission. Today the
mission has thousand of branches all over the world dedicated
to mankind in serving for the poor, preaching religion and
stand by the needy and distressed one. At his instance, the
famous Belur Math was established at the opposite bank of
Dakhsinewar where his Guru Ramakrishna Deb used to reside.
It will not be complete if we do not mention the name of Sister
Nivedita who joined hand with Swamiji to serve for the mankind.
The
saint and the great soul did not live long. His health deteriorated
fast due to exhaustion and fatigue. He died at the age of
39 on 4th July, 1902. With his death an era ended. But we
still recollect his saying " Where are you searching
God? He is in your own self. If you server for mankind, you
are serving for God.
