Rabindranath Tagore, the world famous eminent writer, poet and musician. was born on 8th May, 1861 in Tagore family of Jorashanko. From his childhood, he was reluctant in conventional school education. So was he taught by tutor at home. His father was Maharshi Devendranath Tagore. Rabindranath was the first Indian to receive Nobel prize for his unforgettable book"Getajanli". Numerous poems, stories, novels, dramas and lyrics with music are still the milestones in Bengali literature. Vishwabharati University at Shantiniketan was the creation of Rabindranath. Later, Rabindrabharati University was set up by his name. The music written and composed by him is known as Rabindra Sangeet. The Bengalis music and song cannot be thought about without Rabindra sangeet. Geetobitan is the total collection of his music.

His other creations in literature have been published as 'Rabindra Rachanaboli' in 18 volumes. Many films have been made with his stories and novels. His style of writing and composing music make distinguishing characteristics in the mind of music lovers. In this age of modernisation we still can not forget Rabindranath. He is like the spinal chord of Bengali mood. In every situation in our life whatever we need to express that is also covered by Rabindranath. His art of drawing and painting still occupies the distinguished place. He was conferred on Knighthood in 1919 but he refused that reluctantly in protest of British massacre in Jalianwalabagh. Most of his creations have been translated into different language. Even the poet himself translated some of his creations in English. After a long days of suffering, the great soul left for heavenly abode on 7th August, 1941.
