The Third Test at Kolkata with West Indies in 1948
On the last day of the year, the third test started. Three changes took place in the Indian team. Mustaq Ali, Mantu Banerjee and Ghulam Ahmed replaced Rangachari, Sindhe and Umrigad in the squad. Due to sudden illness of Fadkar, Sarbate came in place of him. West Indies too replaced Stolmaire with Caroo. West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first.

1st innings
Play started by Atkinson and Ray. They accelerated runs from the beginning. Mantu Banerjee took the wickets of Ray and Atkinson. Atkinson scored zero. Ray and Walcot jointly scored 17 and Ray lost his wicket scoring 15. Wicks scored 162. At the end of the first day West Indies scored 339 for seven.The second day was first day of New Year and it was the day for India.
Ghulam Ahmed
Ghulam and Mantu ended the innings just with 27more runs. Gordard remained not out at 39. The innings ended with 366. Mantu and Ghulam took four wickets each. India went for batting their 1st innings. Mustaq and Ibrahim started the Indian innings well. Ibrahim was bowled by Gomez when he scored only one run. After lunch, Modi and Mustaq performed very well. While slashing Godard's ball Mustaq was caught by Ray. Hazare and Modi were not out till the close of second day. Indian score was 204 for 2.

On 2nd January Kolkata saw a spectacular cricket match. Gomez took Ibrahim's wicket at the beginning of the match. Gomez also took the wicket of Hazare when he was at 59. Modi and Hazare scored 129. Modi and Hazare scored 206 for the 3rd wicket partnership. West Indies maintained their attacking attitude. Gomez took the wicket of Amarnath when his personal score was only 3. Within half an hour India lost its 3 valuable wickets and added only 6 runs to the score board. During nect one hour Adhikari and Vinu Mankad showed their patience. They added 57 runs. When Indian score was 267, Gordard took the wicket of Mankad. Farguson took the wickets of Ghulam Ahmed and Mantu Banerjee. Hemu Adhikari was not out in 31. The first innings of India ended with 272 runs.

2nd innings
The second innings of West Indies started by Ray and Caroo. Mantu took the first wicket at the score of 13. Farguson came in lieu of Walcot. When the team's score was 32, Farguson was l.b.w. by Mankad. Ray and Wicks added a massive score of 104. Then Ray scored 34. Wicks was not only on the threshold of second century, but also was in the verge of making world record of five centuries in the test matches. At the end of the day Walcot and Wicks were not out and the score of West Indies was 123 for 3.

On the fourth day of the test match, the performance of Walcot and Wicks was very ordinary and spiritless. Gomez and Christiani scored 29 and 22 respectively and showed a splendid performance. When West Indies score was 336 for 9, Gordard declared. At this moment to win, India had to score 411 runs in 415 minutes which was impossible. So the excitement of the match decreased. Then target of the both team was not to loose the match. On 5th day Mustaq scored 106. Amarnath and Hazare were not out. The match ended with draw.
