The Second Test at Bombay with West Indies in 1948
The second test also held without interval at Brabourne Stadium, Bombay from 9th to 13th December, 1948. This time Godard also won the toss and chose to bat. In the first innings A. F. Ray and E. D. Wicks of West Indies scored 104 and 194 respectively. Here two changes took place in the Indian cricket team. S. G. Sindhi and Polly Umrigad came in the team in place of Taraporey and Sarbate. Polly started his cricket carrier from this test match.

1st innings
Ray and Stolmaire started the match very well as opening partner and their partnership score was 134. Stolmaire scored 66 and was bowled by the intelligence of Mankad. Fadkad took the wicket of Ray when he scored 104. Clive Wallcot and Everton Wicks added the maximum score. Wallcot was playing defensive. At the end of the day the score of West Indies reached to 255 for 2.
Rusi Modi

On the second day, Wicks showed a splendid batting performance and scored 194. This was his second century against India. Indian bowler Rangachari tried hard but could not yield any effect. Rangachari trapped Wallcot. But the fielders were unable to take the opportunity. Wallcot was run out by Hemu at 68. Christiani and Wicks made unbeatable partnership. They did not bother about Indian bowling. Their partnership score was 170. At the end of the day, West Indies scored 557. When they were returning to the pavilion, all the spectators gave standing ovation in appreciation to their performance

At the starting of third day's match West Indies captain Gordard did not declare like the first test match. Inspite of team score of 557, Wicks could not take the opportunity given by Gordard. Atkinson and Cameron simply ruined the Indian bowling. 75 minutes before the lunch Godard declared to end the innings. Then score was 629 for 6 when Cameron and Atkinson score was 75 and 23 respectively.

The whole Indian team got panicked and started playing. At the start of the game, the irresponsible batting of Mankad and Ibrahim indicating as they forgot the huge score of West Indies. When Indian score was 27, Ibrahim went back to the pavilion. His personal run was only 9. India lost three wickets in 32. Hazare and Adhikari played well for 2 hours but they could add only 50 runs to the team score. In 273, India ended the 1st innings.


2nd innings
With the burden of follow-on India could not start the second innings very well. India lost 2 wickets for 33 runs. Pin drop silence among Indian spectators proved that they were scared for the worst performance of Indian team. Rusi Modi played well on the 4th day. At the end of the day both were unbeaten and the score was 95 for 2. On the 5th day, the stadium was full with spectators. There was an only question - 'Will India be able to draw?' Otherwise West Indies will win. It was difficult to win against West Indies but was not impossible. Modi was confident and Hazare was continuously helping at his level best. Modi was out in 112 runs. Hazare and Amarnath remained unbeaten with the score of 134 and 58 . In this series West Indies could not win for the vulnerable Indian performance in the second innings.
