scored by Lala Amarnath was well regarded as a record. He
became the first Indian to score a century in the history
of test cricket. However, Valentine - the British batsman
too made a valuable century (136) in this match.

second match between the two countries had started on
05th January, 1933. The match took place in the Eden Gardens
of Kolkata. Here, five changes were made in Indian team.
Ramji, Jamshedji, Colah, Jai and Navle were replaced by
Gopalan, CS Nayudu, Naomal, Mustaq Ali and Dilwar Hussain
(wicket keeper). In this match Amar Singh came to lime
light for his penetrating blowling. He took the vital
wickets of Walters & Bernett in the first innings.
The second test ended in a draw which was an acheivement
for the Indians. It was the first time when they could
resist the super power of England. |
